Plans

ProtectMyID Standard Plan $15.95 Per Month

Surveillance Alert Notifications

They’ll alert you via text or email of new activity that could be identity thieves at work. Then They’ll help you stop the damage from escalating with identity theft resolution. Every day, they make your protection our top priority with three levels of advanced monitoring.

Lost Wallet Protection

A lost wallet can mean a lost identity. Call them if your wallet is lost or stolen and they’ll help cancel or replace credit cards, driver’s licenses, Social Security cards, insurance cards, and more.

Child Secure $6.95 Per Month Per Child

Children are 51 times more likely to become victims of identity theft than adults. The good news is, ProtectMyID also offers identity protection for your children. They’ll alert you if a credit report is open in your child’s name.

Minors shouldn’t have any credit activity until they apply for college loans or a credit card.

  • Address Change Alerts

If your address related to your credit cards is changed or altered, you will receive an alert from ProtectMyID. This alert is sent through email and text message.

  • Credit Alert

This particular feature monitors your credit report like LifeLock from all the three main credit reporting bureaus – Experian, Trans Union, and Equifax. In addition, it also monitors your bank accounts, leases, and new loans.

  • Monitoring Online Sources

The service pays special attention to certain online sources, such as sex offender registry, criminal, and court records and payday loans to ensure your information has not been appropriated by someone else.

Conclusion

After reviewing multiple identity theft sites, we found the service to be mediocre. We found the call center representatives to be helpful but the call center isn’t available 24 hours a day. Only one credit bureau is monitored, so if anything happens and reported to the other two bureaus, you will never know. It’s great that wallet protection is included but oddly enough, it only covers debit cards, medical cards, and not credit cards. We did like how your address is monitored through the USPS and you will be alerted if anyone makes any credit reported address changes. The $1 Million insurance guarantee is included but that is an industry norm. Overall, we believe that there are better competitors to choose from for identity theft protection. The price is a little lower than the competition but you also don’t get as much in return. In the end, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for.

  • This is a good price, and I really like that they offer child coverage. I would say that the $16 is really not bad, but that's my opinion.

    • I agree with you Bob, it's a good price for comprehensive coverage. And adding a child for $6 a month is a bargain especially since children are such hot targets for identity thieves nowadays.

  • Thanks for reviewing the identity theft plans. I have travel plans to Europe and am concerned about what I would do if I lost my wallet. I agree that all three credit bureaus should be monitored. I'm glad that the debit cards and medical cards are covered but it's also important that my credit cards are included. A good price is important, but as you say, you get what you pay for.

    • Exactly Jim, you get what you pay for, so if you want better coverage, then you may want to go with Identity Guard or LifeLock. They offer plans that are pricier but also protect their clients better as well.

  • I agree that $16 is a great price, but I think all the credit reports should be included and loss of credit cards should be included IF the credit card companies don't remove the charges. The weird thing is that it's highly likely that the credit card companies WILL remove the charges, so I don't know why Experian should be so shy about wanting to come out and say they'll cover this aspect of protection. Maybe they couldn't negotiate a suitable deal with Equifax on the credit reports.

I'm glad this article contained the tidbit about kids being 51 times as likely to have their identities stolen. I knew they were more susceptible than adults, but I had no idea how much!

    • Yes Andrea, $16 is one of the better deals for comprehensive coverage. Kids are the fastest growing segment of the population that are experiencing identity theft. Identity thieves go after them because they know that they aren't keeping an eye on their credit, which allows the thieves to do serious damage without anyone knowing. The child won't know about the damage until they apply for credit the first time as an adult.

  • I would def. want the call center to be open 24/7. TO me, that is a must. What if I need to speak with someone at 12am after I realize things aren't right? I'm going to look at some other company's plans.

  • While I haven't personally used this, it seems like a product I would use. I enjoy all the technological features about it, such as monitoring me online and keeping up with me when I move. It makes me feel more protected. Also, the price is cost-effective.

  • The credit alerts are what I need. Like that children can be included too.

    • I think everyone should sign up for identity theft protection for that main reason. You should always become alerted if your credit is ran at any time so you can stop anything from happening right away. Everything else is just icing on the cake in my opinion.

  • Lost wallet protection is important. I've lost mine a few times, but luckily it was just around the house or in the car both times. It's scary when that happens. Not sure if this company can offer everything I would want though.

    • Each person has main points that they want covered and is looking for certain benefits. Some people may not like LifeLock or ProtectMyID, but they like MetLife Defender because they offer the best children protection in the industry. Everyone is different so different companies cater to different peoples' needs.

  • This is a pretty okay plan, but I'm not sure the sex offender registry is really that important, I can just go to a website whenever I want and check the latest updates. I guess it's good for some people to have though.

    • If I was a female that lived alone, I would definitely want to get the sex offender registry sent to me. There are some creepy people out there and I would want to know how many were around me. I think it is a nice service that is provided that other competitors don't.

  • Thank you for this information on ProtectMyId. I was considering taking a look until I found this article. I feel the price becomes too high when adding my credit score and report. I mean if I want to check it quarterly, then I have to pay an extra $120 per year.. I believe that should come with the monthly fee.. at least once quarterly. Maybe I'm looking at the information in correctly.. yet the pricing for ProtectMyId appears a little higher than the other services I've researched. Plus the fact that noidentitytheft did not give it their highest ranking.. thank you so much for this info.. and keep smiling

    • Glad you liked the review Shalonda. You don't get nearly as many benefits as other companies. They could definitely do a better job and make the extra effort to compete with their rivals.

    • I am glad you found our review so helpful. The credit monitoring and receiving credit scores should be mandatory for all identity theft protection companies. What should also be mandatory is that your credit should be monitored by all 3 bureaus. Unfortunately most don't do that. That's why we gave them a lower rating, because they only use Experian. I personally would recommend going with a company that uses all 3 credit bureaus.

  • The child cover feature is really interesting! I guess I knew that children also are at risk for identity theft but I didn't know the stats. I like that they call attention to that. The fact that wallet protection doesn't cover credit cards is really frustrating. I like the price, but I feel like I've seen other companies with more/better features included.

    • Exactly Papersoul. I think the company heads should get together and revamp their whole service. They have the means and expertise to accomplish this and compete with the top guys in the industry.
